Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Assess the needs of the permaculture system for species
  • Access plans and design criteria for permaculture system
  • Identify environmental and climatic conditions for permaculture site
  • Determine primary characteristics and uses for species in permaculture system with client
  • Investigate interrelationships of species for a sustained permaculture system
  • Determine diversity of species in permaculture system

Element: Investigate species to achieve permaculture system outcomes
  • Investigate and identify plant species reflecting characteristics required in permaculture system
  • Investigate and identify animal species reflecting characteristics required in permaculture system
  • Investigate and identify invertebrate and microbial species reflecting characteristics required in permaculture system
  • Assess and confirm value of each identified species for roles or functions required in permaculture system
  • Select and document species identified according to biological naming conventions

Element: Recommend species and cultural requirements for a permaculture system design
  • Investigate and document cultural requirements and conditions for each species selected
  • Investigate and document expected interactions and interrelationships for species in permaculture system
  • Compile documentation into formal recommendation according to workplace format
  • Present recommendation to client for feedback and approval
  • Review and rectify recommendations according to client feedback

Element: Evaluate suitability of species in a permaculture system
  • Monitor implementation and development of permaculture system
  • Evaluate suitability of species in design
  • Re-assess underperforming species and investigate alternative options
  • Maintain records of species performance for future reference

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
